pma magazine, reporting news from Europe’s events industry, has named V-Series Product of the Year 2014. After the mid size line array was nominated by an expert jury, alongside candidates for Trend of the Year and Event of the Year, the winners were finally determined by the public via online and postal voting.
The V-Series comprises the V8 and V12 loudspeakers and the V-SUB. V8 and V12 utilize a 3-way passive design, housing two 10” LF drivers, one hornloaded 8” MF driver, two 1.4” exit HF compression drivers with 2.5” voice coils mounted to a dedicated waveguide, and a passive crossover network. The careful, symmetrical positioning of the drivers allows a smooth overlap of the adjacent frequency bands in the crossover design, resulting in exceptional 80° horizontal constant directivity dispersion control, down to approximately 250 Hz. The companion V-SUB is a compact, high performance cardioid subwoofer. A forward facing 18” driver and a 12” driver in a two chamber bandpass design radiating to the rear enable cardioid performance, powered only by a single amplifier channel.
Noted for, ‘among other things, their dynamic range and very high peak power,’ the V-Series is celebrated for time aligning four separate drivers in a single cabinet without requiring multiple amplifier channels with dedicated digital signal processing. To achieve this d&b went back to basics. The V8/V12 cabinets have been acoustically engineered to address the compromises that occur when achieving optimal constant directivity from such a compact loudspeaker - without relying on DSP. It’s the result of the patented d&b approach to loudspeaker design playfully known as ‘Plywood Signal Processing’.
