The Association of Theatre Technicians (ABTT) has named the d&b V-Series Sound Product of the Year. Judging took place during the ABTT Theatre Show at the Old Truman Brewery in London, and after much deliberation, the winners were announced to a gathering of exhibitors, visitors and members after the show closed on 13th June. This year’s awards were sponsored by two of the organization's Silver Industry Supporters Group members, Triple E and Stage Electrics.
Launched just three months ago, the d&b V-Series is already making its mark. The new system, developed by Matthias Christner and Werner ‘Vier’ Bayer at d&b, realizes the case for a medium sized line array based around 10" drivers for the LF section. "We wanted to create a system that combined powerful delivery with typical d&b sound, but in a smaller package," explained Christner. As a result, this medium scale line array system comprises two loudspeakers, V8 and V12, and an accompanying cardioid subwoofer, V-SUB. Both loudspeakers deliver 139 dB SPL and match their larger J-Series cousins in sound characteristics and coverage.
On choosing the V-Series the judges remarked: "The award goes to a speaker system that uses four separate drivers in a single box without electronics. The judges recognize that no time alignment is required in the Digital Signal Processing chain. Back to basics with a single amplifier system."
"It's a great honour to receive the award for Sound Product of the Year,” commented Phill Coe, Market Manager for d&b audiotechnik GB. “Coming to ABTT is always a pleasure for d&b; unlike larger exhibitions, contributing to this vibrant community can be quite intoxicating. Winning this award, and for a product so new to the market, makes this year’s visit even sweeter."
