The d&b Soundscape has collected its latest accolade, from the organizers of PALM Expo, India’s leading trade show for professional audio and lighting. The Award, for Technology Innovation of the Year, was accepted by Leslie Lean from Ansata, the d&b distributor in India, and Michael Kinzel from d&b audiotechnik.
Launched in 2018, the d&b Soundscape has been at the forefront of a revolution in live sound reinforcement. It has been successfully deployed in a variety of applications, from concert touring and festivals to theatre and art installations. Artists as diverse as Kraftwerk, Björk and Imogen Heap, musical productions including Starlight Express and The Last Ship, and critically acclaimed plays such as The Lehman Trilogy, have all embraced the possibilities offered by the d&b Soundscape for the enhancement of live sound.
The d&b Soundscape is based around the sophisticated DS100 signal engine, a powerful, Dante-enabled 64 x 64 matrix processor offering level and delay control at every crosspoint. Its optional software modules, En-Scene and En-Space, respectively offer object-based signal management and room emulation capabilities. Soundscape allows the sound images in a performance to be as natural and realistic, or as experimental and creative, as the artist and designers could wish.
The d&b Soundscape previously won the 2019 InAVate and ISE InAVation Award for Entertainment and Live Events - Audio Technology. In the 2018 Pro Sound Awards, it won Best Immersive Project with Gareth Owen Sound’s d&b Soundscape design for Starlight Express in Bochum, Germany.
This is the second PALM Expo Award for d&b audiotechnik, following the recognition of its ArrayProcessing software in 2016 when it won the Line Array Technology Award.
Anil Chopra, editor-in-chief of PALM technology magazine and head of the Awards judges, commented, “As the era of AI, VR and immersive experiences gains traction, it was important to recognize the d&b Soundscape for the Indian market . . . We reward technologies which offer solutions to market trends. PALM is an activist and catalyst and this award reflects our aim of galvanizing the market by alerting it to important new technologies.”
Speaking on behalf of d&b local distribution partner Ansata, Leslie Lean commented, “We are delighted that the d&b Soundscape has been recognized by PALM Expo with this Award. Soundscape opens a whole new world of creativity, and a new era of sound experience. We are very excited by the possibilities for the d&b Soundscape in the Indian market.”
