Polish musical theater welcomes Soundscape to the stage.
d&b partner, Konsbud Audio, recently installed a Soundscape system based on the xS-Series at Polish theater Danuta Baduszkowa. For one of their latest productions, Soundscape enabled the technical team to create special effects and move sound sources freely and creatively, to immerse the audience in an alternative reality.
Watch the film below and discover how Soundscape revolutionized the theater’s technical team’s approach to mixing world class productions.
Situated in the coastal town of Gdynia, the musical theater, Danuta Baduszkowa, is one of the largest in Poland. Since opening in 1958 it has been extended significantly to offer a vast repertoire of performances across three stages. Recently, the theater chose to utilize Soundscape for its celebrated musical adaptation of The Jungle Book, testing out its features and capabilities.
“The Jungle Book is a musical, in which, in addition to music and choreography, effects play a very big role,” explains Tomasz Warczak, Sound Engineer at Danuta Baduszkowa. “The production wants to sonically move the audience into a different world. We achieved this by using Soundscape. It enabled us to place the sound of a buzzing bee or the roar of a lion dynamically within the room. This way it was possible to obtain a very realistic experience, so much so that people followed the moving sound with their heads, looking around for the source.”
At the heart of Soundscape sits the DS100 Signal Engine, a powerful 64 x 64 channel audio matrix providing extensive signal processing, and controlling level and delay. Using the optional En-Scene and/or En-Space software modules users are able to place and arrange so-called ‘sound objects’ freely in the room, as well as recreate the sonic environment, or sonic signature, of recognized venues from across the globe - in any given space. It is this flexibility to control sound objects in real time that the crew in Gdynia find most exciting. As a result, according to Warczak, the d&b Soundscape has an important role to play in the future of musicals.
