d&b performance only a touch away at iconic Greek restaurant.
Shark Bar, Restaurant and Club, one of Thessaloniki's most iconic establishments, is a name synonymous with elegance, culinary innovation and luxurious entertainment. The venue has undergone extensive renovation and upgrades with the interior transformed into a cool, loft-like space with exposed brick walls and modern fittings. The renovation work is completed with the addition of a brand-new d&b sound system comprising of the xA and xS installation series, as well as an R90 touchscreen remote control.
The owners at Shark describe the brief for the new sound system: “Shark is not just a bar and restaurant. Shark is also a place for business meetings, special events and celebrations and every aspect of the venue has to prove and support that.”
Greek Audio company Telmaco S.A. with support from AVEQ Audio&Visual consultants were tasked with designing and installing a system to meet this brief. After a site survey and careful audio measurements it was clear that a d&b solution was the best way forward.
The final design divides the venue into different zones that can be controlled via a d&b R90 remote control touchscreen. The R90 is designed to be able to manage the daily operation of a d&b sound system without needing a technician, a handy aspect for any venue but especially useful for a restaurant setting. At Shark, Telmaco programmed six different user presets that can be recalled for different needs in any of the separate zones.
Antonis Skoditis, Sound and Lighting Consultant at AVEQ, who heavily influenced the design for Shark, explains why they chose to integrate an R90 interface to manage the d&b setup: “The great thing with the R90 is that you can control not only the zone volume levels but amplifier inputs as well. So, once you recall a preset you get the desired input level with the appropriate audio source for every specific zone.”
A further important aspect of the brief was the prevention of noise pollution: “As the venue is located within a residential area and only 50 meters away from the nearest buildings, we had to make sure noise immission is kept to an absolute minimum so we would not face any complaints” states Skoditis.
d&b’s NoizCalc software enabled Vasilis Drougas, Entertainment and Live Sound Expert at Telmaco S.A. to accurately predict the future sound propagation especially regarding the low frequencies
Ready for the future
Drougas sums up the project: “By installing a d&b system we have helped Shark to make this technical upgrade as future proof as possible and by adding the R90 touch screen they can ensure optimal sound at any time of day with the help of any of their staff.”
